The altitudes assigned to SCIAMACHY's solar occultation measurements are changed in the range of −130 to −330 m, the lunar occultation measurements are changed in the range of 0 to +130 m and the limb measurements are changed in the range of −50 to +60 m (depending on season, altitude and azimuth angle). The geolocation of all retrieved products will benefit from this the tangent heights are especially improved. Using these three type of measurements, we fit improved mispointing parameters by minimising the pointing offsets in elevation and azimuth. In the horizontal direction the geometry of the port defines the viewing direction. Solar observations through SCIAMACHY's so-called sub-solar port (with a viewing direction closely to zenith) also use the SFD in the vertical direction. We use reference images from the USGS Robotic Lunar Observatory (ROLO) to take into account the inhomogeneous surface and the variations by lunar libration and phase to parameterise the location of the intensity centroid from the observation geometry. The viewing direction is steered towards the intensity centroid of the illuminated part of the lunar disk. Moon over limb port measurements use for both the vertical and the horizontal direction the adjustment by the SFD. In horizontal direction, SCIAMACHY's sun follower device (SFD) is used to adjust the viewing direction. In sun over limb port observations, we utilise the vertical scans over the solar disk. sun and moon, to detect possible mispointings. The basic principle is the same as used by the star tracker: we measure the viewing direction towards celestial objects, i.e. In this work, we present additional sources of attitude information from the SCIAMACHY measurements itself. The pointing information of the instrument is determined by the attitude information of the Envisat platform with its star trackers together with the encoder readouts of both the azimuth and the elevation scanner of SCIAMACHY. The SCanning Imaging Absorption spectroMeter for Atmospheric CHartographY (SCIAMACHY) on Envisat (2002–2012) performed nadir, limb, solar/lunar occultation and various monitoring measurements. In general, the findings are indicative of the limited repertoire of vocabulary acquisition techniques employed by Iranian EFL learners, hence the need for strategy training in how to acquire vocabulary. The observations also confirmed the findings obtained via the questionnaire and interviews. The findings revealed that the most effective VLSs were reported to be: a) reciting, repeating and listening to words, b) using words, and c) memorising words while the most effective VTSs revolved around: a) explanation, b) repetition, and c) dictation. Additionally, 78 learners were interviewed as to their perceptions of effective and ineffective VLSs as well as VTSs. The findings indicated that females and males differed significantly in their reported VLSs and their teachers’ use of various VTSs. The questionnaire comprised two parts, enquiring as to the learners’ VLSs and the teachers’ VTSs. Sixty-seven learners (31 females and 36 males) filled out a 56-statement questionnaire, adopted and adapted from Takač (2008) and translated into Persian. The triangulated data were collected using three tools: questionnaires, interviews, and class observations. In total, 145 intermediate learners of English as a foreign language, consisting of 114 males and 31 females aged 15 to 27, participated in the study. The objective of the present study was three-fold: 1) exploring Iranian English language learners’Vocabulary Learning Strategies (VLSs), 2) examining language learners’ perceptions of vocabulary learning, and 3) exploring Iranian English language teachers’ Vocabulary Teaching Strategies (VTSs). Vocabulary constitutes an essential part of every language-learning endeavour and deserves scholarly attention.

But the million dollar invoices I’ve seen are mostly names I know are from the US, Canada, UK and places like that. There was this myth of the Japanese businessman interested in investing in comics. LA: Everyone has been talking about that for a long time. RS: No big Chinese money or money from the Middle East moving in then? There’s some interest from places like Qatar, but it’s probably expats. I’ve still found comics and comic art are mostly an English speaking thing. RS: How much interest are you seeing from overseas? Is there a particular global region that’s pushing a lot of money into the market right now? They’re holding on, although they may be doing some profit-taking or selling some books to pay for big items like a new house. I haven’t seen a lot of old school guys getting out. But it may be more of more people coming in than people leaving. RS: Is there a generational shift going on, with first-gen collectors from the 60s and 70s unwinding their holdings and new people moving in? If so, how is that shaping the market? Artwork by Robert Crumb, courtesy Heritage Auctions America" (1975) sold for $312,000 at Heritage Auction held June, 2021. Robert Crumb's original artwork to the 5-page story "Let's Talk Sense About This Here Modern. They’ve been selling for years at $100 at 9.8, then, last year, $300, then $600. You have comics from the 80s with a high census population. LA: If anything, the lower tiers are doing even better. RS: Is this purely a blue-chip driven market, with the Frazettas and Crumbs and Detective 27s seeing the lion’s share of appreciation, or are we seeing big percentage gains at traditionally lower tiers? If there’s a 9.6 comic at the top of the census, that’s meaningful. They’re used to seeing a lot more cards in prime condition. Comics look cheap to the sports card guys. The sports card market in particular has gone crazy. So new people are coming in, people from the sports market. It’s non-stop, and are such a household name now. Marvel, Disney, TV shows, Star Wars stuff, all that. There’s just a sustained higher level of interest. It’s got to just be a number of factors, a perfect storm of things coming together. People don’t have more money just because they’re sitting at home. But it became obvious it had to be something else. They’re not spending money on gas and things like that. Now why? Well, maybe more people have time to sit around and look at their computer. Our first auction was flat, maybe down a bit. LA: The first few months, everyone was worried. RS: How did the pandemic and the suspension of live events affect the collectibles market? There’s probably not going to be too many more of those that surface. For there to only be four of those in grade 9.8, it really means something. They've been doing the grading for over 20 years. With that one, being a 9.8… there are others, but I think there's only four total. RS: Is it the condition that's driving these, the fact that these are the best known copies of these particular books, or combination of factors? For that to go for a quarter million dollars, that was just hard to believe.ĭetective Comics #140 in 9.6 condition from the Promise Collection sold for $456,000 at a Heritage. The guy who brought that in, when he told me that he thought that was a six figure book, I kind of thought he was crazy. Again we know it's a great book it's been a super-desirable book for 50 years, but for it to go for close to half a million…īut the one that I might be the most surprised by is the first appearance of Ghost Rider, Marvel Spotlight #5, from 1972. Same thing with another one, Phantom Lady #17. Now I thought it was a six figure book the first time I saw it, and I thought it might be $200,000, but for it to go for a number like that was more than a little surprising. One of the top books from that was Detective Comics #140, featuring the first appearance of the Riddler, highest graded known copy, going for $456,000. LA: We were expecting the Promise Collection to do very, very well and it did, but even it really outpaced any expectations we had. RS: What do you think were the most notable or unexpected results from the recent auction? It just seems like everything has a huge upward trend. But lately, especially over the last six months, it has just been across the board: modern books, 80s and 90s books, Silver Age (1960s), Golden Age (1930s-50s). For a long time, the big key issues – first appearances, high grade copies, things like that – or pieces of artwork that had something special about them, have been greatly outgaining everything else. Lon Allen, VP, Heritage Auctions: Lately it's really been across the board. Even though a key element of house production is layering sounds, such as drum machine beats, samples, synth basslines, and so on, the overall "texture.is relatively sparse". House music producers typically use sampled instruments, rather than bringing in session musicians into a recording studio. The electronic drum machines and other gear used by house DJs and producers were formerly considered "too cheap-sounding" by "proper" musicians. House music could be produced on "cheap and consumer-friendly electronic equipment" and used sound gear, which made it easier for independent labels and DJs to create tracks. One classic subgenre, acid house, is defined through the squelchy sounds created by the Roland TB-303 bass synthesizer. Sometimes, the drum sounds are "saturated" by boosting the gain to create a more aggressive edge. The TR-909 drum machine (top) and TB-303 synthesizer, instruments often used in house music House music has remained popular on radio and in clubs while retaining a foothold on the underground scenes across the globe. Many house DJs also did and continue to do remixes for pop artists. or " Push the Feeling On" by the Nightcrawlers. House was pioneered by DJs and producers in Chicago such as Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy, Jesse Saunders, Chip E., Steve "Silk" Hurley, Farley "Jackmaster" Funk, Marshall Jefferson, Phuture and others. It was created by DJs and music producers from Chicago's underground club culture in the late 1970s, as DJs began altering disco songs to give them a more mechanical beat.
